Full-Time Postdoctoral (Licensure-Eligible) Psychologist Position Available

J&L Psychology Group is currently accepting applications for a full-time, one-year postdoctoral fellowship with a flexible, immediate start date (estimated that position will begin in summer/fall of 2022). The position requires 20-25 clinical hours (1:1 patient care, group) in addition to attending a weekly clinical meeting, projects meeting, and individual supervision. Administration time and project development hours also are included in the 40-hour workweek.

We are looking for candidates interested in working with children, adults, families, and/or couples in a close-knit, collaborative therapeutic group practice. Our practice is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and all services are primarily being provided virtually due to COVID-19 crisis.

The postdoctoral fellowship position at J&L Psychology Group is designed for candidates who have successfully obtained their doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and are interested in accruing licensure hours in a supportive private practice setting. J&L Psychology Group specializes in the treatment of individuals across the lifespan (children, teens, adults) who present with a diverse set of issues, including complex trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment/transition issues, etc. We provide individual, couples, and family-based therapies. We are passionate about developing authentic relationships with our patients and tailoring treatment plans to fit each person. Our team has extensive training and experience in many treatment models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic Therapy.

The ideal candidate for the postdoctoral psychologist position is a collaborative, creative, and team-oriented individual with demonstrated interested in providing integrative and evidence based psychotherapy. This one-year position offers the unique opportunity to adapt one’s clinical skills to the private practice setting and to join a growing, well-regarded and established group practice. Additionally, the postdoctoral psychologist will have the opportunity to develop their integrative trauma-focused therapy skills through regular supervision with J&L staff psychologists.

Program Training Goals and Objectives

• Train new psychologists specializing in integrative, evidence-based therapy in a private practice setting
• Expand upon and deepen knowledge and skill in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for PTSD, complex PTSD, and related disorders
• Adapt and integrate competencies acquired in the provision of hospital and clinic-based psychotherapy and assessment services to work with broad range of client issues in private practice setting
• Develop foundational knowledge of the process of building and maintaining a private practice in New York City and develop a network and positive professional collaborations
• Apply and expand knowledge and understanding of the application of ethical principles and practices in clinical work, including knowledge of laws and regulations as well as understanding of developments in the field of psychology and state-of-the art treatment

Clinical Training
As a postdoctoral fellow, your experience will include:

• Responding to new patient consultations and conduct screening and brief evaluation consultation calls with prospective patients
• Conducting psychological assessments to determine appropriateness of new patients for outpatient private-practice treatment and make collaborative clinical decisions with team
• Offering 20-25 hours of clinical face-to-face contact per week, including individual, couples, family, or group-based therapeutic work
• Coordinating with other members of patient treatment teams in a timely manner
• Engaging in at least 2 hours of individual supervision
• Participating in regular 2-hour group consultation meetings with other team members in the practice
• Attending weekly 1-hour projects meeting that focuses on the development of various projects of interest among current staff and trainees
• Engaging in didactic offerings (including didactics on evidence-based trauma care, suicide risk assessment and management in private practice)
• Participation in training in a selected topic with training stipend by J&L Psychology (e.g., EFT couple therapy, EMDR, PE, CPT, etc.).
• Opportunities exist for the candidate to propose new clinical research projects

We offer multiple training tracks tailored for each trainee (trainees can combine tracks for training):

• Adult track: provide individual therapy to adults presenting with mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders
• Couples track: provide couples therapy to couples presenting with relationship concerns
• Child track: provide therapy to children presenting with mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders
• Family track: provide therapy to families presenting with family-based concerns
• Group: co-lead psychotherapy skills and process groups as available in the practice with opportunities to design and implement new group curricula if of interest to the applicant

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD or PsyD)
• Licensure eligible in New York State
• All applicants must have completed their internship and successfully defended their dissertation prior to starting
• Availability must include Mondays from 12-2pm and at least 2 evenings per week
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in working with adults and couples, or children and families
• Experience in trauma work is required
• Experience in telehealth preferred but not required
• Candidates must carry their own professional liability insurance ($1 Mil. /3 Mil. limits)
• Candidates must apply for and obtain their New York State Limited Permit prior to start date

Postdoctoral Fellowship Support & Applications

Stipend and Benefits
The Fellowship is a 1-year (12 month, full-time) commitment. The annual stipend is currently $50,000 annually, paid on a biweekly schedule. The fellow will also be provided a training stipend of $2,000 to attend training(s) in self-selected training(s) of interest.
Benefits: As a full-time employee, you are eligible for our benefits package. The benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, long- and short-term disability coverage, and life insurance, of which 100% of premiums will be covered by J&L Psychology.

You also will be entitled to the following:

• Paid time off: 2 weeks’ vacation and 2 personal days. In addition, J&L Psychology observes federal holidays, and, at the discretion of the founders, may offer additional paid time off.
• Paid sick leave: 5 days.
