About: Our History
A passion for healingJ&L Psychology is the culmination of a shared vision born of different yet converging paths carved during one of New York City’s most devastating events: September 11, 2001. Jennifer Newman was a psychology trainee at Hofstra University called on to provide intensive trauma treatment with families and first responders. Laura Price was a newspaper reporter covering the aftermath of the terrorist attacks and was so moved by conversations with grieving families and survivors that she shifted from a career in journalism to pursue a PhD in Counseling Psychology.
Jen and Laura met at NYU Langone Health in the PTSD Research Program, where Jen managed a team of professionals investigating trauma and depression. They continued to work together at NYULH's Steven A. Cohen Military Family Center, which offers free therapy to veterans and military family members with complex needs. Outside of work they spent hours on long runs throughout the city, wrestling with difficult cases and learning that they share a dedication to treating those who feel especially broken, alone, and unheard. Through these conversations the opportunity to build something special together started to take shape, and J&L Psychology was launched. We have expanded our team with trusted colleagues who embrace our philosophy and deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. Vertical Divider
