A philosophy of wholeness
At J&L Psychology we are inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi: When it seems all in your world has shattered beyond repair, we help you locate and cherish those pieces, fitting them together to create a stronger, more resilient you. Lining the cracks with a bonding material fashioned of curiosity, trust, and resolve, we believe each person not only can rebuild what's broken, but in the process generate something new and beautiful from what emerges. You transform and evolve BECAUSE of your imperfections, not in spite of them.
A personal, tailored approach
Jennifer Newman, PhD ("J"), and Laura Price, PhD ("L"), created J&L Psychology to bring a passion for healing directly to patients who are seeking personalized, gold standard mental health treatments. Our team infuses the therapy space with a deep understanding of human behavior built over years of clinical practice and research.
Our goal at J&L Psychology is to foster and nurture strength, resilience, and hope in our patients. We create a warm, collaborative environment in which to evaluate your treatment needs. From there, we build a treatment plan informed by scientific knowledge of psychological principles and tailored to your unique life circumstances and personal history.
We work with you to develop more effective, flexible approaches to managing life's challenges so you can achieve your personal goals.
Our clinicians have trained in academic medicine settings, city medical centers, and VA hospitals, with exposure to advancements in research and clinical treatment in the field. J&L Psychology therapists have hands-on experience conducting research in PTSD and providing treatment to veterans, military families and couples, first responders, and frontline medical workers, in addition to the population at large.
All of our therapists participate in continuing education programs to stay on top of the latest research and treatment protocols to best inform the practice.
A commitment to inclusivity
At J&L Psychology, we start from a place of respect and dignity for all our patients. We believe in taking an active anti-racist stance by addressing the devastating impact of macro- and microaggressions against marginalized individuals and groups in our society. As a practice, we welcome challenges to our inherent biases within the therapeutic space and outside of it as a necessary part of professional and personal growth. A commitment to inclusivity requires more than words on our website. It demands our accountability.
For example, we forge ongoing relationships with external organizations focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives and weave these topics into our academic training for fellows. In addition, J&L makes yearly monetary contributions, as selected by each member of our team, to non-profit organizations that uphold these commitments as well.
What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi, or “golden joinery,” celebrates imperfections in repairing broken pottery with a bonding substance lined with gold. The result is a stronger, more durable vessel forever changed by its shimmering imperfections.
Similarly, we believe emotional scars are to be illuminated rather than hidden. Shaped by your personal history, your inner beauty emerges as you embrace the unique cracks that define you.
